Habitat for Humanity Women Build Volunteer Training in Portland
Training offered in Portland for Women Build volunteers. This training is offered by Habitat International, in order to train volunteers who would like to develop leadership skills which can be used on Women Build projects. Women Build 2008 Construction
Leadership Training
Women Build volunteers and crew leaders at your affiliate are
invited to participate in one of two Women Build Construction
Leadership training sessions planned for the U.S. West Coast in
2008:
June 22-29, 2008, with Mt. Hood HFH in Portland, Ore.
These training sessions have been developed to give
Habitat’s women volunteers a chance to boost the ranks of
skilled leadership in Women Build affiliates across the United
States. There are only 25 spaces available in each training
session, so contact the Women Build department quickly to
register.
Target audience
Current semi-skilled women volunteers who want to become crew
leaders. Current crew leaders who want to become house
leaders.
Topics
Our goal is to help develop skilled women volunteers into
effective crew and house leaders with improved construction
management and leadership skills. Experts in construction and
leadership training will be leading the course training. While
there will be classroom instruction, attendees will be able to
spend the majority of their time doing hands-on work, learning
on the build site.
Training topics
include:
-Safety Volunteer management (creating a good work
environment)
-Communication
-Attitude, responsibility, recognizing problems, providing
solutions
-Planning for the work week/day
-Teaching, demonstrating, delegating and letting go
-Updates and hands-on construction information (6-days of
building)
-Tips on energy-efficient building
Event details
Location:
In Portland, Ore., we will be building on a Mt. Hood HFH work
site, and training at a nearby community center in
Portland.
Dates:
Arrive Portland, Ore., Sunday, June 22, 2008, and depart
Sunday, June 29, 2008
Time: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day
Price:. The fee of $225 includes all of your training, on-site
building, training resources, safety materials, guest speakers,
lunches each day, snacks and drinks. All participants will be
responsible for their own lodging, breakfast and dinner
needs.
Transportation: Participants must make their own transportation
arrangements. Women Build will provide limited transportation
to and from the work site on the hands-on building days.
