Ancient Forests, Ancient People, Lost Landscapes, hosted by the Oregon Paleo Lands Institute

Start your adventure at the High Desert Museum and travel through the unique small towns and geologic features of Central Oregon. Visit Millican, Christmas Valley and Fort Rock, Lost Forest, Crack in the Ground, Aldrich Mountain and more! Stay overnight in Burns and return to the High Desert Museum on May 25th. $245 includes transportation, lunches, snacks and lodging. This trip begins and ends at the High Desert Museum, Bend.

May 24: depart HD, 8:00 AM.  Travel, Horse Ridge/Badlands area, : Ancient
Junipers, and previous forests;  Continue to Millican, turn south to Christmas Valley and
Fort Rock. Visit Fort Rock Cave.    Lost Forest, Crack in the Ground, 1:30-4 PM. Continue
to Wagontire, US 395. Stay, Burns, OR Best Western. Dinner on your own.


May 25. Depart Burns, 8:30 AM. Travel US 395 to Seneca; volcanic and logging his-
tory enroute. USFS road  63 to Izee, and South Fork Road to Cedar Grove botanical Are.
1.5 mile hike.  Sack lunch.  Continue to Aldrich Mtn. overlook. Walk through 2006 Al-
drich Burn, with discussion of fire ecology, fire-based ecosystems, role of climate in forest
health, Pie and coffee in Dayville, 4 PM. Return to HDM, 6 PM.

Cost: $295. Covers transportation, two lunches, snacks Lodging in Burns. Breakfasts and  
Dinner on your own.
