The Deschutes River Conservancy

The mission of Deschutes River Conservancy is  to restore streamflow and improve water quality in the Deschutes Basin.

The Deschutes River Conservancy (DRC) was founded in 1996 by Environmental Defense, local irrigation districts, and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.  They founded the DRC in response to the growing need for a consensus-building organization to address concerns about water quantity and quality in the Deschutes River Basin.

The DRC was specifically designed to use collaborative, market-based approaches to restoration.  Its
board of directors represents all major stakeholders in the basin, including nine representatives from private interests and ten from public interests.  They are the first non-profit corporation to bring together state, federal, tribal and local government representatives with private stakeholders to carry out basin-wide ecosystem restoration in Central Oregon.   Visit the Deschutes River Conservancy on the web or download our current newsletter here.
