Volunteer Opportunities With Environmental Center Member Groups

  • Volunteers needed for the Riverfest Deschutes River Clean Up on May 10th.  Get Your Hands Dirty for the Deschutes! Join COEC staffers and other community members as we give the Deschutes River a good spring cleaning during Riverfest! Our stretch of river will run from the Bill Healy bridge to the Columbia Street bridge near the Shops at the Old Mill. We have decided to tackle the undeveloped portion of the loop trail and will be undertaking weed pulling, tree planting and trash removal along that stretch. Call 385-6908 or email karyn@envirocenter.org to participate.

  • Volunteer needed to create the Environmental Center's monthly calendar of events.  Approximately 1-2 hours per month during the last week of the month.  Involves transferring events from our web calendar into a print calendar template and choosing photos to be included on the calendar.  Call 385-6908 and ask for Karyn or email karyn(at)envirocenter.org.  Appropriate for volunteers ages 15 and older.

  • Volunteer mappers needed to "ground truth" eastern Oregon Wilderness Proposals.  Maps and instructions will be provided.  A great way to get out in the woods and do some hiking and camping to verify boundaries of roadless areas that they hope to designate Wilderness in their ongoing Oregon Wild wilderness campaign.  Volunteers should have experience navigating using a map and compass.  Call 541-382-2616 or email tl@oregonwild.org.

  • Oregon Natural Desert Association. A rewarding way to get involved in desert and wild lands preservation is by volunteering on a restoration project. ONDA leads a number of volunteer trips each year ranging from multi-day backpacking trips to single day hikes. The trips focus on the removal of obsolete barbed wire fence, road closures, riparian restoration and invasive species control. The purpose of ONDA's Restoration Program is to introduce people to Oregon's high desert, restore and preserve its wilderness qualities, and grow advocates for its long lasting protection. We invite you to join us.  For project details visit www.onda.org or email jjacobs@onda.org.

If you'd like to talk with us about your volunteer interests, please call 385-6908 or email karyn(at)envirocenter(dot)org. We're happy to help match you with volunteer projects!
